kids show

FFT refuses to hand over scrilla to comcast, so i'd only checked out select episodes of wonder showzen when the jzz came up north and brought some vhs tapes.
the show airs on mtv2 but the dvds just came out tuesday. a lot of people refer to the program as "sesame street on acid," but that's a bit reductive—the show's too subversive, too coherent to disregard it as psychosomatic pastiche.
that said, the show has some random-ass vignettes: jesus on heroin, breakdancing a la "what would jesus brew?"; how a microwave chicken dinner is made ("i'll show you how my butt makes nuggets"); tragedy farms guilt milk (with up-to-five missing children on each carton); amy sedaris as a bitchy storytelling fairy; elias koteas as cooties-awareness spokesperson; d.o.g. o.b.g.y.n. (disgusting). the third episode on dvd two, "patience," is a remarkable accomplishment. like sesame street, each wonder showzen is has an underlying motif and is "sponsored." well, the "patience" episode, while amusing, indeed tries your patience, but if you can make it through it's ultimately rewarding.
"beat kids," showing reporter kids on the proverbial beat, also is funny—especially little madison, who is quite the live wire.
give ws a try this weekend.
