monday wrap-up

i live with my younger brother and he totally destroyed my vcr, which i've owned since 1998. he was trying to play some old high-school video and now the vcr won't play, rewind or perform any of its rudimentary functions. my brother says it's "obsolete" technology, but fuck that—how am i supposed to watch my vhs archives without a fucking vcr!
i note this turn of events because i wanted to write a series on rohmer's moral tales, one through six, beginning with the girl at the monceau bakery, but until i get a new vcr this is not going to happen. you can rent the dvd on netflix and i highly recommend it; it's a 16mm short, maybe 20 minutes, about the folly of attraction and desire.
there was a party at trapeze school saturday in sf and it was good times. this is not to say i'm a circus dude, but i'm definitely partial to flying through the air and hanging off bars by my knees. give it a try if you get the chance.
i was this close to getting lacan and contemporary film at city lights. it was co-edited by todd mcgowan, a professor who now teaches in vermont, but whose course i took in la when i was in film school. i'm regretting the non-purchase already and would like to learn more about film theory, lacan and feminism.
i did laundry sunday night and missed kabinet and l'enfant.
i'm interviewing a couple bands this week and some other shit but should be able to keep posting throughout the week. i began a new job on may 4, which is why no posts for the last month or so. i'll be easing back into things and now am committed to my FFT duties.

VHS is the technology of the people, man. I can't help it, I still love VCRs. Besides, my VHS collection is actually way cooler and more varied than my DVD collection, which is essentially Hitsville USA.

nine out of 10 times i'd rather watch something i own on vhs than dvd. of course, i sold most of my dvds five years ago when i moved so i don't quite have the selection of yesteryear. but there's always 'eyes wide shut' if you want to give it a second chance db ...

I already gave it a second chance! It was the second chance that made me realize what a laugher it is. Of course, Kidman's nude scenes will make it forever watchable.
