movies. everywhere. yawn.

i'm sick of movies. over at the yard, there's talk about the fall 2006 film season. what the hell happened to summer? you think his top-5 is depressing? i can't even think of ONE top-5 film.
there's talk all day at work of films and war. snakes. planes. balls-out comedies--as if they were the only comedies. 9/11. toronto. multiplicity. telluride. tower. vocab lists. crest. late fees. fuck!

but hey, this saturday bob moricz will show spree: all the way to mexico at kabinet at 8pm. not a bad way to get back into the groove. this one, i think, was shot on super 8mm film and is a short, unlike his soap epic opera palace of stains. maybe you can learn more at moricz's blog, or check out his production company's site.

still haven't seen little miss sunshine; i've got four goods, one ok and one bad for feedback. metacritic says 78, rotten tomatoes says 93 (with a 90 cream-of-the-crop!).

"little miss sunshine" was decent fun, but in regards to your post, not really a *top 5* film either. it was a paint-by-numbers sundance hit, if you will.

there may not be much in the theaters, but there are several movies on DVD that i'm interested in seeing - the hidden blade, l'enfant, brick, and mysterious skin.

"the hidden blade" is the new film by yoji yamada, who made the excellent film "the twilight samurai."

i've never been a fan of gregg araki, but from what i've read, "mysterious skin" is supposed to be his first mature film, i.e. the film for people who weren't fans of his previous work.

that's a cool rec aobut 'the hidden blade.' i fell asleep during 'mysterious skin.' of course, that's what i do: fall asleep during movies. i knew a girl sara from the old movie theatre who'd kick your ass for saying old araki films lack maturity!
