boratcho
you've probably encountered waxman's article on sacha baron cohen's borat: cultural learnings of america for make benefit glorious nation of kazakhstan. it's a b1 piece about the anti-semitic nature of borat's humour, which i think is a lame angle to take for the story.
perhaps a better story would be to compare cohen and the great peter sellers? i don't know. waxman discusses the nature of borat's jokes (in the film, borat refuses to fly to california from the east coast "in case the Jews repeat their attack of 9/11"). funny, but given that it's satire (and the fact that cohen is jewish), it's not all that controversial.
more interesting is the fact that todd phillips (of old school fame) bowed out as the original director and stalled the production for five months. of that 20th century fox created an entirely new production outfit, called 'one america, no less, to produce the film.
anyway, the article's informative, but a bit of a stretch. i like the fact that cohen will be doing all press interviews in borat character. he refused to talk to waxman for the artice, which, in my opinion, kinda renders the story irrelevant. but it's a decent bit nonetheless.
borat: cultural learnings of america for make benefit glorious nation of kazakhstan comes out november 3.
