midtown monthly found me!

i was doing laundry last night and--holy fucking shit--there was a midtown monthly right there on the rack above the washing machine. un-fucking-believable!

well, turns out the folks at MM have a new distribution driver. and, as evidenced by the January 2 drop date for the new issue--way out in the throngs of east sac, no less--i'd have to say this guy is the bomb. i found out who is running the routes, but i'm not going to out him. but let's just say he puts on a killer friday night film even in town in a basement by spag ...

so, as for the new issue: it's the best yet!

sure, i'm biased, but really, liv and anthony and tracy and co. are doing a great job. quillan on the cover is a good choice, though the actual shot is just so-so. the story is nice and i like daniel macht's writing. he's got a good reporter's instinct and always throws in fun tidbits.

becky's czech/eastern europe story is fun, though i don't eat meat. i kinda feel like an idiot cos i've worked across the street from cafe marika for over two years and i've never eaten there.

i also know of a fun german imports place but i'll have to get it's address. she's really making stride with her food reviews.

dani and j's stories are cool local pieces. anthony's contributions and photo captions are always cool. i like the idea of full-page photo shots in the front of the magazize and i hope that they keep that up, and i hope that jyoti comes back and shoots.

oh, and tim foster's illustration for my khtk/bee story is fucking sweet. they should have just ran a full-pager of it and cut my article. meh.

the music section is still a work in progress, and there are a few other editorial mishaps. but, all in all, i'm really really happy with this issue. way to kick off '07, y'all!
