Climate change to kill Oakland A's Fremont stadium hopes?
This was in today's S.F. Chronicle. The authors argue that the greatest threat to the A's new stadium might not be traffic or the Fremont City Council, but instead climate change, i.e. global warming and the rising bay waters.
I suppose the easiest point of reference is An Inconvenient Truth, where it was discussed how scientists have predicted the S.F. Bay and Delta waters could rise up to 20-feet if, or when, certain polar ice caps dissipate. Thusly, unless the city of Fremont and Cisco build a gigantic tidal wall to surround the new stadium, the boys in green and gold could be playing in a swamp.
It's refreshing that the mainstream media is taking climate change into consideration when discussing development issues. Let's see if local city councils, from Fremont to right here in Sacramento, will follow suit.

Proposed development site for Cisco Field, future home of the Oakland A's (?), in Fremont. Note the prospective development area neighbors a wetlands preserve. Now, there's no hiding that I'm a huge A's fan, but if the Fremont City Council approves this development, there's no debating the fact that it will have a detrimental effect on the wetlands' biosphere.
