Pulitzer Gold
Jonathan Gold, the longtime food critic for LA Weekly, won a Pulitzer Prize yesterday.
I've always enjoyed his column "Counter Intelligence." When I lived down south, he was the only food critic who carved a beat out of the "other" city, east of downtown. It was fun to read about the odd finds—his "canon" is itself an argument that the greater-Los Angeles might be the food Mecca of the United States. Personally, I always enjoyed getting Vietnamese food in the Fountain Valley area, or going for some bomb Mexican food after work when I used to hit the grindstone in Costa Mesa.
Check out this link to the LA Weekly site, where Gold and his wife, the LA Weekly editor, chug some bubbly and goof around upon learning of his award. Kudos!
