Break yo face, cool hand, rabbit's back, bbq on sunday

Gabriel Gonzaga just after Randy Couture broke his nose during a body slam.

Face off: I'm a newly converted UFC fan (well, not really, but I kind of have to fess up cos I've seen the last two cards. Me and Kobe B. and Shareef and Keanu.) Anyway, The Couture-Gonzaga bout was out-of-control bloody, what with Gonzaga's nose breaking in the first round and blood gushing out until the ref ended the match midway through the third. Wicked—though I still don't think Gonzaga would have had a chance even though hey had to play hideyaface for the remainder of the bout. Another thought: Is Joe Rogan on the HGH? Thanks to roomie Rich for coughing up the big 39 for the Pay Per View.

50 eggs: I watched Cool Hand Luke on Sunday afternoon and you've really got to hand it to the film. I know you've all seen it, but what's amazing is how there's no real three-act structure, but it still works as a three-part narrative. Just like Luke says, "Sometimes your best hand is nothing." Or something like that.

And the camerawork is so odd. Take the scene where the chain gang covers the tar on the long road. Sweeping zooms, jump cuts—there's speed and movement, but not in the way of, say, The Bourne Ultimatum, where the cuts are fast but the action feels fragmented. Luke's style is breezy, continuous and real. I don't know any filmmaker that shoots action as such any more.

Lapin! My rabbit's back. Now what do I do ...

Party on Sunday: Party/barbecue at my pad on Sunday, since Monday's off. Ask me or call me or drop me.
