Rethinking Sacramento's Mayflower
I ate for the first time at Mayflower near Alhambra and L last night. Had the sizzlin' rice soup and some sweet-and-sour tofu. Killer huge portions. The back page of the menu is in Mandarin and, were it all veg, I'd totally be down for some point 'n' eat. I think people will miss this place. I sure as hell don't give a flying shit about Walgreens.
Anyway, I was thinking about how Mayor Heather Fargo was touting her "50 new restaurants" deal and while I think it's great to have more places to eat, the hidden "cost" of redevelopment is the loss of places like Mayflower. Would it not be as effective redev-wise to just subsidize a remodel for the Mayflower? I guess that's the prerogative of the landowner.
Oh what am I saying I just really dug the sizzlin' rice soup (above photo).
