bonjour (or bon apres midi)
FFT live from SFFF. Yes, I’m here, capitalization and all. But don’t expect some motherfucking trend in so far as respect for punctuation and grammar over these next few weeks.
I’m in the big house at the Crest Theatre, www.thecrest.com, and I’m trying to tap into the free wi-fi at the Pyramid Brewery next door, but it’s not quite working. Perhaps it will work in the smaller auditoriums—I’ll experiment tomorrow during the a.m.
Well, how ’bout a little wi-fi roundup: Pyramid, no; Crest Café, no; Temple, yeah right. But I’m working on it here. I’ve already changed my seat once in the auditorium, so let’s see what happens.
The applause begins …
Cecile Mouette Downs and Co. get on stage. Happy Bastille Day! (And the French Flag falls down!). Holy shit, it’s Jeffrey Callison from Capitol Public Radio. Cool beans y’all.
They’re giving away prizes now. Needless to say, I’m by no means winning. FFT is no winner, fo’ sure. They’re thanking volunteers now.
Here’s a photo of on stage.
More thanking of individuals … very respectful audience.
Wow, there’s a lot of cool sponsors. Café Rolle, Dane Henas, Dutch Falconi, Whole Foods, 1664, 55 Degrees, The Waterboy, Coffee Works. This is true community folks.
Callison just said “… from explicit sex to gentle humor.” Everyone laughed, hah.
Cecile recommend Le Moustache. Looks like I’m going to have to make time to see it. I was going to skip it too for hot ass. Better not.
I wrote in Midtown Monthly that the SFFF is the premiere cinema-going experience of the year. I kinda phoned in that article, but what I wrote is true: This is truly the the shit. I’m so excited to be here now, and I truly cannot wait to lock myself up in the Crest for the next two weeks and dig this shit.
Now there’s a California State University, Sacramento, professor discussing Les Brigades du Tigres. He says the film was very well received in France; I’ve heard otherwise. (My friend, who I’ll refer to as “PC,” says the French critics pretty much disregarded it. I’m not sure if PC saw the film, but I’ll e-mail her to find out.
OK, the show begins. MAC off …
The first act has ended and now I must go to the Finches show. Alors, I’ll write about the first act over coffee at Temple tomorrow.
