coming this weekend ...

i'm a bit late on this but, quite frankly, there ain't much making its way into the theatres this weekend.

night watch is a russian sci-fi film. here's what the imdb has to say: "among normal humans live the "others" possessing various supernatural powers. they are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents." this sounds a lot like a shitty idea called shadow armaggedon that my college buddy (who i'll refer to as ballfrost) came up with, e.g., devils from hell and angels from heaven were waging war in an unnamed metropolis. i wonder what that guy is up to now?

nothing else is new at crest or tower, except for the jewish film festival.

i'll probably see dave chappelle's block party, a concert film about a chappelle show in 2004, but i missed the free sn&r screening last night. the film was directed by frenchman michel gondry, who did this while working on post-production for eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and his 2006 sundance entry the science of sleep. interestingly enough, jbark loaned my his michel gondry director's series dvd a few days back and i don't believe anything has given me more pleasure this past week than watching gondry's "around the world" daft punk video over and over on friday (was it friday—bro?). the one cibo matto vid on the disc is also a treat, a la the 'sidewalk' deconstruction scene in esotsm. gondry has a great sense for recognizing the cadence of a song and having the images and sequences of his videos coalesce with the changes and rhythms—just note his work with the white stripes. i think with his improved command of the english language, his films will only get better.

still no manderlay, but when it finally drops anchor in sac there will an official FFT screening for the first evening show that Friday. keep checking in, you LvT whores,

FFT takes ya 'round da world.

i think the "sugar water" video for cibo matto is gondry's best shit ever.

a friend of mine saw "night watch" and said it was garbage.

LVT can blow me! :)
