the 9/11 movie

first and foremost, let it be said that any filmmaker who makes a september 11 movie is a pretentious ass. even if you make a conspiracy film that, speculation aside, is a quite convincing and observant , you're still an ass. it just comes with the territory.
is it possible to make an impartial and aware film on 9/11? for that matter, will anyone make an accurate film. i mean, what if you believe that, say, united flight 93 never crashed, never was shot down, or landed in cincinatti ... or something else? without addressing these legitimate questions, a filmmaker is making nothing but pure exploitation.
oh, i'm talking about united 93, the first studio 9/11 film. oh fuck.
there's no doubt that the universal studios film from director paul greengrass will reinforce the main facts of the 'official' flight 93 story, beyond simple government incompetence. spend a little time on the united 93 imdb boards and you'll soon realize that there is a small community (perhaps not so small) that vehemently doubts the official government story on 9/11 and are up-in-arms over this film.
like any conspiracy movement, the 9/11 theorists have been co-opted by radicals, hysterics, subversives, anti-bushies, revolutionaries, nihilists and grid-dwelling hipster scum. however, there's an common thread to all their agendas: something's not right with the official story on 9/11.
but, hey, this is a cinema web site; we don't have opinions on shit like that here.
despite moviegoers in manhattan freaking out over the trailer, universal is standing by their product.
as for the trailer, have a look yourself: here.
in the trailer, an faa guy yells, "we need rules of engagement!" this is, of course, included strictly for dramatic purposes: the faa and norad know exactly what to do if a plane shuts off its transponder or if communication is lost. according to protocol, jets are to be sent up to the plane to engage (aka communicate). no jets were sent up to any of the four hijacked planes on 9/11 (an oddity—on a normaly day, jets are scrambled immediately to engage; this is a commonplace procedure).
the film's director, greengrass, almost prides himself on his 'verite' style. we'll have to see how 'truthful' this first 9/11 feature is when it drops on april 23.

united flight 93 crash site in pennsylvania. no plane, no bodies, no blood according to first-response witnesses.
