be 13

no, it's not the latest eminem protege. and no, it's not some crap luc besson actioneer either, though that is what i expected going in.

it's a pretty solid, albeit shameless, east-meets-west french action film.

b-13 is banlieue 13, which is a parisian suburb not unlike clichy-sous-bois, where the rioting took place last fall. the film takes place in the future, 2010, and the b-13 neighborhood has been gated off--no one is allowed in or out, schools have been closed and the police force has left the area. b-13 is ran by a heroin kingpin and his gang/army, and only leito--the title character--gives a shit about keeping the neighborhood drug-free and safe. it's a funny film with lots of corny but engaging scenarios. B-.

i went to synthetic last night for tha fruitbat's birthday. lot's of drunken madness, including most of an angle, who were hammered on whisky. two playa game, takeshi and tha fruitbat, had a good set, and the dude formerly from algorhythm was decent in a ricardo villalobos kind of way. the sunday night electronica gig at press is taking off, and i guess they'll be having some diy bands in the near future for good measure.
