We live in, uh, Sactown?
I wanted to chime in real quick on the new issue of Sactown magazine, which came out yesterday. I've only spent about 30 minutes with the magazine. Here are some quick thoughts:
- There's no arguing that it is very professional and sharp. After a cursory glance, I found very few errors--and even the Bee article that claims "premier" was misspelled on the cover got it wrong. It's "premier," dumbasses (if you use "premiere" as an adjective, it means foremost or principal. "Premier" as an adjective means first in time or earliest).
- Jesus, I did a quick count and there are at least 20 references to all things New York. It's almost nauseauting how often they write stuff like "... as New Yorkers." To that extent, the magazine feels like its written by outsiders--hell, I would know, because I'm NOT LOCAL! Granted, I grew up here, but I did live in LA and Europe for six years.
- There's a lot of fluff. But I know how that is.
- Oh, and we no longer live in Sacramento, by the way. We live in "Sactown." I know. I know. But, hey, don't worry. At least we're still Sacramentans. I don't like that shameless branding.
Perhaps I'll actually read an article. Donnell Alexander has a bit on Artest. Kate Washington has a food bit. Lark Park. Liz Kellar. Rob. Malmberg. Shit, the mags a bona fide Ghosts of SN&R Past publication!
Sactown has a blog that's been updated. Check it out.
OK, I'm out,
