Bears at Record Club, Bad News Bears, Blackburn, Cockburn, Matt Damon, secret JZ package, Old sandwiches, 13
Bears! Oh man, so I know you didn't go to Record Club at the Press yesterday afternoon, and you're an idiot for missing out. Seriously, I don't care: You suck.
Why?
Because the Bears, who hail from O-high-O, Cleveland specifically, were fantastic. They're finishing up their tour tonight in S.F. Check out their myspace: www.myspace.com/bearspop.
What are they like? Well, a bit more mainstream Belle&S with a touch of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Broken Social Scene for good measure. Agreeable, folky, poppy, indie. Best moment was a cover of Hall & Oates' "Out of Touch." Good set. Good set.
Sacramento Bad News & Review Bears win! Yeah, we won our first playoff game ever! ... And then in the subsequent game returned to our losing ways. I ripped a tripppple, yup. Thanks to everyone that played and came out to our games, especially the regulars.
Blackwell burned: Speaking of Ohio, the contrast between our secretary of state, Debra Bowen, and former Ohio sec Ken Blackwell on this whole electronic-voting fiasco is wild.
Both Place and Sacramento counties are complaining that changing machines by February will be next to impossible.
From what I've read, it appears that the next Blackwell could be Minnesota's possible new sec of state.
Perhaps we should just vote like they do on American Idol? Or SN&R's Best Of Sacramento? I mean, they get it right ... in as much as G-dub Bush is "getting it right" ...
Cockburn: That's "co-burn," btw.
Anyway, CounterPunch editor Alexander Cockburn's column has been on fire lately. In this week's he:
1. Slams both the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch's respective legacies.
2. Slams Hillary Clinton for taking money from a major GOP Chicago fundraiser.
3. Reluctantly praises Barack Obama for his naivete.
It's great. He's on a roll.
Also, the Zirin piece on publicly financed stadiums is top-notch and a must read for development-conscious Sacramentans.
Bourned out of my mind: I caught The Bourne Ultimatum on Saturday. It's an impeccably well-crafted bit of filmmaking, and the Waterloo and New York City sequences are top notch.
And I really like Paul Greengrass, whose United 93 was a total left-fielder for me. But this one is retread. The opening is a rehash of the center command scenes from U93, and it's hard not to feel like you've been down this road. And while the chases are thrilling, their one-trick ponies; it gets old.
Weirdest thing is how transparent Matt Damon is, which is impressive. You don't even see him as Damon. Hell, you don't even realize he's Jason Bourne. He's just this dude, zinging about like a fucking pinball. Now that's acting (I'm not joking). Some douche like Colin Farrell would have jacked it up by slumming to the camera. Damon, a la Bourne, goes for icognito, and it's impressive. There's one scene in Tangier when he finally stops to reflect, and it's like "Oh yeah, Matt Damon."
Man I'm an idiot (sorry, been a long time since I even thought about film, let alone put fingers to keys).
Secret jizz package: The JZ sent me a secret package of a film from L.A. Go suck a fuck if you think I'm going to tell you what it is ...
Old Soul lunch expands: Old Soul has sandwiches now. I had already ate last Friday, but they're on a bun and look tasty (did I overhear someone saying it was prosciutto and melon? Odd ...).

I'll have to TiVo that shit.
Shit, I forgot about TiVo. I assumed no one in their right mind would get up that early.
Deleted ...
I like your spicy new attitude. I know I suck for not going to record club (camping hangover) but you suck for not going to see mika miko, so there! Seriously, if we keep dishing out the guilt in our respective blogs will it have any effect. Probably not.
I have never seen any of the bourne movies, so i'm going to go put them in my netflix queue right now!
Hollywood should only allow Paul Greengrass to make action films. He puts Ridley Scott to shame, though the new Peter Berg film, THE KINGDOM, looks interesting (bad title). I have a soft spot (right behind my left ear) for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.
Well I'll go to Fursaxa to make up for being too lazy to go to Davis.
glad to see you finally gave "friday night lights" a chance. about time, punk.
bourne 3 rocked my balls off, i saw it twice already. also ratatouille is really amazing.
