Take it for Granite
I took a day off yesterday and went to the Granite Bay SRA at Folsom Lake with Leroy, Weird and AN.
You can hike along the lake near the horse trail and on makeshift mountain-bike paths, and this is the best time of year to go to the lake because it's empty, the water is low and the dogs can roam freely without a leash.
There's no water spout for dogs, so after the hike you'll have to improvise.
And no, we didn't nosh at Hawks, Toast or Crush 29—Leroy only goes for the ol' In-N-Out burger. In fact, he whimpers like a little baby in the drive-thru. But at least he stays in the car—I'm told that at Taco Bell, he tried to jump out the window and into the drive-thru window. Of course, I have never seen this 'cause I don't eat fast food.
Yes, I put Leroy out on this rock. No, he doesn't like the water so I had to go get him and bring him back to the shore. Yes, I slipped and got my shoe drenched.
The huge rocks of granite are rad. Closer to the lake, there are petrified tree roots and all sorts of mollusks and what have you. If you have the time and a dog with more stamina, you can walk from the Granite Bay side all the way to Beales Point, or Folsom, and the Lake is light-rail friendly if you want to make a day of it and not drive.
